How to Maximize Your Scrabble Score
Three keys to high Scrabble scores: play bingos (+50 bonus), hit premium squares with high-value letters, and manage your rack to avoid dead tiles.
The Bingo: +50 Points
The single biggest score boost in Scrabble is the bingo — playing all seven tiles from your rack in a single turn. This awards a flat +50 point bonus on top of the word's base score.
Most bingos score 60–120 points depending on the word and board position. Without the bingo bonus, that word might only be worth 10–30 points.
To plan a bingo, look for common 7-letter word shapes you can form from your rack. Prefixes and suffixes like -EST, -ION, -ING, -ED, -ATE appear in many bingos.
Premium Squares
The Scrabble board has colored squares that multiply your score:
Center square (★) is a Double Word — it's the most valuable square on the board because crossing it doubles your entire word score.
High-Value Letters and When to Play Them
Some letters score much more than others:
The worst mistake with high-value letters is holding them too long. Playing Q early for 10 points is often better than saving it for a theoretical 30-point play that never comes.
The Endgame: Leave No Dead Tiles
In the endgame, when few tiles remain, avoid leaving a dead tile in your rack — a letter that blocks you from playing. If you have a Q and no U and no Q-without-U words available, try to exchange it early rather than let it sit through multiple turns.
